Skin microbiome modulation was performed on 40 subjects (ages 18-45, male and female) who exhibited grade 2 or 3 acneic skin according to the Global Evaluation acne scale. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20456560/).

Subjects applied serum to their face for 28 days. The composition of their skin microbiome was assessed using 16S amplicon sequencing both before and after serum SkinDuoTM application on day 0 and on day 28, with Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology to target the V1-V9 regions.

When observed, phenotypic effects of acne revealed a specific microbiome profile. This profile showed a reduction in C. acnes, an increased S. epidermidis, and increased L. plantarum, indicating that the SkinDuoTM serum effectively targets the pathogenic C. acnes, which is a known contributor to acne.
